Just One — a free online co-operative word guessing game for 3 to 7 players

Just One is a co-operative party game with one cruel twist: everyone writes a one-word clue in secret, and any clue that two people happened to think of is thrown away before the guesser sees it. You are all on the same side, which somehow makes it worse.

How it compares

This is a browser take on the one-word co-operative clue game — if you know the tabletop game of the same name, the twist is the one you remember: duplicate clues are cancelled before the reveal, so the obvious word is usually the wrong word to write. Players who enjoy Codenames or Wavelength tend to enjoy it too.

How to play Just One

  1. 1Create a room. Open Just One, pick a name and avatar, create a room, and share the six-character code with 2 to 6 friends.
  2. 2One player becomes the guesser. Each round one player is the guesser and never sees the mystery word.
  3. 3Everyone else writes one word. The other players each secretly write a single-word clue for the mystery word.
  4. 4Duplicates are cancelled. Before anything is shown, identical clues are removed. Two people writing the same obvious word costs the team both clues.
  5. 5Guess. The guesser sees only the surviving clues and makes one guess.
  6. 6Score together. There are no individual winners. The team scores across the round, so a clever clue nobody else would write is worth more than a safe one.
